Chinese Herbal Medicine

Chinese Herbal Medicine is one of the great herbal traditions of the world with a recorded history of more than two thousand years. Like the other Chinese medicine traditions, CHM is based on the principle that good health is dependant on achieving optimum vitality and balance - a balance described in terms of the polarity of Yin and Yang.

Treatment involves the use of combinations of herbs designed to correct disharmony. The Chinese Materia Medica contains a pharmacopoeia of several hundred ingredients, including roots, stems, flowers, leaves and barks. The guiding spirit is that a balance of ingredients with specific properties is tailored to match the unique pattern of the client.

Herbs may be administered in a variety of forms: as a tea, concentrated powder, tablet, capsule, ointment or skin wash. Wherever possible I use organic ingredients in my prescriptions.

Integrated Approach

In practice Herbal and Acupuncture treatments go hand in hand. Herbs are used to augment and enhance the life and potency of acupuncture therapy.

Safety of Chinese Herbs

Chinese Herbal Medicine has a proven track record of safe use with few of the damaging side effects associated with Western medicines. In all cases, herbal medicines should only be prescribed by fully trained practitioners adhering to the Code of Practice and complying with Uk legislation and controls over potentially toxic ingredients. These practices are enshrined in the membership of the Register of Chinese Herbal Medicine.

Endangered Species

The RCHM has always condemned the illegal trade in endangered plant and animal species, and its members are subject to strict rules that prohibit the use of any such material.
